“‘Can you paint your nails?’ No, I’m not gonna do that. I’m not— I’m not— I’m just not comfortable enough with my sexuality to paint my fingernails. I’m joking, I just don’t want to… do that. [laughs]”

“[sarcastically] Oh yeah, I have so much nail polish remover. Seriously like the one or two times I’ve tried to ironically, er, nail— like, paint my nails black, so I can be like, ‘I’m totes a goth today!’ it just looks like crap. [laughs] Every girl— well, most girls— are like, ‘Look at my things’; I’m just like, ‘bleh bleh bleh’ and then my entire finger’s just this black thing and then it goes over my face. I’m such a boy. Which translates to being crap at everything.”

“Er, ‘You should paint your nails!’ I don’t have any nail polish— How do you get it off? Do you need to use nail…varni…rem…ove..er [gibberish] to take it off? Or can you just, like, chew it off? And does that kill you if you chew it of?”

“‘Will you ever wear the nail polish?’ Maybe. I’m very forgetful. If Dan doesn’t remember to put in his own earplugs, then what’s the likelihood that Dan would remember to sit down for ten minutes and paint his nails? I mean let’s just be real about that.”

“‘Nails. Really good.’ Are they? So, somebody gave me black nail polish. And then, I was like, ‘I’ll just wear it, why not?’ And, yeah. That was fun. My review of nail polish is: quite therapeutic to put on, I like spending ten minutes putting on my hand (Dan says with a northern inflection, that was weird). But it smells really bad. Didn’t enjoy that. And then it just didn’t stop. And then I couldn’t touch anything for half an hour. [??] for ways to speed that up, interesting, didn’t smell great. Um, then, it was, you know, it was cool. Felt like, you know, I was extending my personality into my nails. Which is the whole point of style and customizing yourself, so, you know, I can relate to that. That was… that was good. Erm. I felt the need to like run my hands over it all the time, which was a bit annoying. And then once I scratched a bit and it fell off and I was like, ‘Oh no.’ And that was annoying. And then I needed to remove it and then I didn’t have anything to remove it with and I was really distressed for like half an hour, and then I found some wipes and then I did that.”

“‘Nails,’ said Whiskers. Yep, that’s cool. Erm. Yeah. Interesting. I feel like I would buy some matte black. I’m not sure about the shiny black. I felt like it was a bit too shiny. Feel like matte is more my personality.”

“‘Would you paint your nails again?’ said Deandra. I would. But, like with my ears, it’s something I forget about, but I probably wouldn’t be able to do.”
